Direct Pointing
Direct Pointing is Pointing that lands a placement. When a digit's candidates in a 3×3 box all sit on one row or column, you can already scrub it from the rest of that line — that's the Pointing half. But if that scrub leaves another box on the same line with only one cell left for the digit, you place it right there instead of circling back.
What is Direct Pointing?
Regular Pointing does the elimination and moves on. Direct Pointing doesn't move on — it looks at the other boxes on the same row or column and checks whether one of them now has a single candidate left for the digit. If it does, that's the placement. You get the Pointing cleanup and the Hidden Single placement in one pass, instead of finding them separately.
How to spot it
Find a Pointing pattern first — a box where a digit's candidates all line up on one row or column. Then check the other boxes on that same row or column: after the Pointing erasure, has one of them been reduced to a single candidate for the digit? If yes, that's your cell. Pencil marks make the lining-up obvious, and they're pretty much required for the second step, since you're now tracking candidates across multiple boxes on the same line.
The logic
The source box must contain the digit, and all its candidates sit on one row or column — so the digit has to be in that box on that line. That rules it out of the rest of the row or column. Now any other box on that line has lost some candidates for the digit. If one of those boxes is down to a single candidate, that cell has to be the digit, because there's nowhere else in that box it could go.
